Weight Lifting Routines – How To Get The Best Results

If you want to take your body to the next level you will have to incorporate a weight lifting routine. The problem is that most people just show up to the gym and do whatever they feel like doing. And while you will get some results from this initially, it won’t get you anywhere in the long run. If you are serious about getting stronger and leaner you will need the right weight lifting routine.

Its All About Progressive Overload

To get the best results from any weight lifting routine you will need to incorporate the concept of progressive overload. Our bodies are created to adapt. If you start lifting weights on a regular basis you will see your body change. You will gain muscle and become stronger.

However, eventually your body will adapt to the workout and stop changing. It will no longer take as much energy or effort to get through the workout. When this happens you will hit a plateau. Once you hit a plateau your body is basically at a stand still. You can go to the gym everyday but nothing will change.

That’s where progressive overload comes in. With progressive overload your body will continue to grow and change. As you apply more pressure your body will keep changing. And that is exactly what you want. By using progressive overload you will avoid the dreaded plateau.

Here are 3 ways to  implement progressive overload into your workout routines:

1 – Increase Intensity

You don’t have to necessarily change your entire routine to keep getting the results you are after. Adding more weights each time you do a particular exercise will prevent your body from adapting to your routine and hitting a plateau.  So if you started it off lifting 40 pounds, try lifting 45 the next time you go to the gym. This small change will do wonders for your body.

2 – Increase Duration

Instead of doing 8 reps, try doing 12 instead. This will push your muscles and make them work harder. And as they work harder they will be forced to change.

3 – Do A Different Set Of Exercises

Sometimes you can get bored with the routine you are doing. So instead of using machines try using free weights.  Instead of doing the same old arm routine, switch it up and start doing something new. Sometimes all you have to do is start using a different machine and your body will start to change again.

The weight lifting routine you choose will depend on your personal fitness goals. Once you are clear about what you are trying to do, you can cater your weight lifting routine around that. Just remember that with pressure comes change. Don’t be afraid to use heavy weights. By using heavy weights you force your body to keep getting stronger and stronger and stronger.

So if your workout routine has become a little stale and you are no longer getting the results you want, try switching things up. One small change could give your body just what it needs to bust through a plateau and start growing again.
